CoEd GUatemalaGets a New Home!

A new home in Guatemala means future growth and major opportunities
for CoEd programs!

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous benefactor, we are taking a gigantic leap forward in our ability to break the cycle of poverty in Guatemala through education. We have purchased a property in San Lucas, Guatemala, and secured funding to begin renovating the space to meet our needs for serving students in the western and central highlands. Our benefactor has challenged us to raise the final 18% needed to complete the building’s transformation into a brand new education center! This is a huge deal. Here’s why:

1. Staff Efficiency:

Our Guatemala staff currently works out of two offices and one warehouse. With the purchase of this new property, we will be able to consolidate operations, affording us major gains in efficiency.

2. Proximity to Beneficiaries:

CoEd will be located near the heart of the communities served in the Scholarship, Culture of Reading, Computer, and Textbook programs. The new building is right on a major intersection of the PanAmerican highway, with a walkway allowing safe, convenient access to a bus stop just across the street. This means that the people we serve—who typically travel by bus—have easier access to our life-changing programs.

3. On-Site Training:

With your help, we can transform this location into a fully-functioning education center with space to conduct teacher training classes and many more activities. Scholarship students, for example, will attend youth development workshops at the new center and benefit from an on-site computer lab.

4. Future Expansion Opportunities:

We will be remodeling the campus of a rather large former school, which means there is enough space to allow for program expansion in future years. Multiple buildings on the campus will allow CoEd to significantly expand services to the poor in Guatemala.

At the end of the day, the new education center is about organizational sustainability and ensuring that CoEd programs are available to students as long as they are needed.  We’re even planning to install solar panels, which will significantly decrease our utility costs! We mean it when we say we’re always striving to become more sustainable as an organization.

CoEd Guatemala Gets a New Home!

This education center will support CoEd’s long-term strategic vision to keep thousands of kids in school and give them the skills they need to break the cycle of poverty in Guatemala. We can’t wait to get started on the renovations! Thank you to our generous benefactor, and to everyone involved in our leap forward. Stay tuned for ways that you can help in the final push to make CoEd’s new home in Guatemala a reality!

Don’t worry—you’re all invited to the housewarming party!
