In developing countries
like Guatemala, much of
the population lives in poverty with little access
to adequate jobs, medical care, and housing. Education
offers the best hope for these countries to advance
and to sustain that advancement into the future.
In Guatemala:
-93% of the rural population lives in poverty (1)
-64% live on $2/day (2)
-A 36-year civil war left 200,000 dead and 1 million
displaced

(3)
-there is 70% illiteracy in rural areas (4)
