Join nonprofit, Cooperative for Education (CoEd), and Guatemalan Singer-Songwriter, Gaby Moreno, in breaking the cycle of poverty in Guatemala—and raise a real roof over a family’s home!

In Guatemala, only 1 of every 10 students is able to stay in school through high school—forced to drop out early to support their families—continuing the cycle of poverty.

For every $960 raised, one more Guatemalan student can stay in school for another year with a Rise scholarship!

You can help these deserving students graduate from high school, armed with the skills and confidence to secure better employment opportunities—breaking the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families.

¡Únase a la ONG, Asociación COED (COED) y la cantautora guatemalteca, Gaby Moreno, para romper el círculo de la pobreza en Guatemala—y levantar un techo real sobre la casa de la familia!

En Guatemala, solo 1 de cada 10 estudiantes puede permanecer en la escuela hasta el nivel diversificado, obligados a abandonar la escuela antes de tiempo para mantener a sus familias.

Rosa Virginia: Gaby's Inspiration to Raise the Roof

While traveling through Guatemala in February with CoEd and Rotary International, Gaby visited the home of Rosa Virginia and her family. Rosa is a student in CoEd’s Rise Youth Development Program, which provides full academic scholarships, comprehensive support services, and engages students in workshops, community service, and visits to local businesses and universities that transform the way they think about their futures.

When Gaby met Rosa, she saw something familiar—a girl with a passion for music and singing. Gaby learned that Rosa’s mother, Leoncia, has been raising Rosa and her four siblings on her own, determined to provide her children with opportunities for their future. Even with so much potential, Rosa had the odds stacked against her—that is, before her Rise scholarship leveled the playing field.

Rosa inspired Gaby to partner with CoEd to spread the word and help fundraise for Rise scholarships for other kids just like Rosa—by launching the Raise the Roof campaign! Additionally, after seeing the condition of Rosa’s roof and home, Gaby and her family saw a need to raise a real roof over Rosa’s family’s house. A portion of the campaign donations will help install a much-needed replacement roof and other renovations on Rosa’s home.

Rosa Virginia: La inspiración de Gaby

Mientras viajaba por Guatemala con COED y Rotary International en febrero, Gaby visitó la casa de Rosa Virginia y su familia. Rosa es estudiante del Programa de Becas de COED, que brinda becas académicas, servicios de apoyo integrales e involucra a los estudiantes en talleres, servicio comunitario y visitas a empresas y universidades locales que transforman la forma en que piensan sobre su futuro.

Cuando Gaby conoció a Rosa, vio algo familiar: una niña apasionada por la música y el canto. Gaby se enteró de que la madre de Rosa, Leoncia, ha estado criando sola a Rosa y a sus cuatro hermanos, decidida a brindarles a sus hijos oportunidades para su futuro. Incluso con tanto potencial, Rosa tenía las probabilidades en su contra, es decir, antes de que su beca la nivelara al terreno de juego.

Rosa inspiró a Gaby a asociarse con COED para correr la voz y ayudar a recaudar fondos para becas para otros niños como Rosa, ¡al lanzar la campaña Raise the Roof! Además, después de ver la condición del techo y la casa de Rosa, Gaby y su familia vieron la necesidad de levantar un techo real sobre la casa de la familia de Rosa. Una parte de las donaciones de la campaña ayudará a instalar un techo de reemplazo muy necesario y otras renovaciones en la casa de Rosa.
