We’ve all met them – those people whose passion for a project is so overwhelming, so in-your-face awesome, that you can’t help but get caught up in their whirlwind of excitement. We here at CoEd are extremely lucky to have many of these kind and enthusiastic supporters in our midst, imbuing others with their dedication and commitment to breaking the cycle of poverty in Guatemala. So without further ado, we would like to introduce you to the first of many superstars among us…

Involvement with CoEd: Event Chairperson for Fall Fiesta 2012: Mysteries of the Mayan Calendar, Event Co-chair in 2011, and Fall Fiesta committee member in 2010
How did you first learn about CoEd? Doug and I are adoptive parents, so we first heard about CoEd from Friends Through Guatemalan Adoption.
What originally motivated you to get involved with CoEd’s projects? Since my daughter Ingrid was born in Guatemala and CoEd is based in Cincinnati, where I live, it was the logical choice for giving back!
Fall Fiesta is this Saturday, October 13, 2012 so final preparations are under way. Any exciting updates about the event to share? We have many new committee members this year and they have brought a lot of new ideas and excitement to make the event special this year. The Live Auction has some exclusive packages for people to bid on, like tickets to The Ohio State versus Purdue game complete with a tour of the Horseshoe Stadium. There’s also an amazing vacation to the French Alps. We have a new game, Plinko, like on the Price is Right, and of course the popular Wine Ring Toss will be back too! It’ll be such a fun night!

You recently returned from a Project Tour to Guatemala. What was the most rewarding part of your volunteer experience? For me personally, the experience of spending five days in a Guatemalan school provided an insight into daily life in rural Guatemala that I could never have experienced otherwise. And listening to the CoEd staff in Guatemala describe their experiences gave me additional motivation to work even harder for this year’s Fall Fiesta. What a dedicated group!

What continues to inspire you to stay involved with CoEd? My ongoing motivation is the same thing that motivated me initially…Guatemala gave me an amazing gift in my daughter, Ingrid. I know that I will never be able to repay this gift, but I will continue to work to show my gratitude!
