This year our Textbook Program expanded to 16 new middle schools in the regions of El Quiché, Chimaltenango, Sacatepéquez, Quetzaltenango, Totonicapán, and Sololá. In June we surveyed the teachers at these schools to get their thoughts on how the program has begun to affect their teaching and their students. How is this possible, you might ask? When students don’t have access to textbooks, they have to spend money making photocopies and doing research at internet cafes. So even though there is a small fee for students to rent the textbooks in our Textbook Program, they often save money!
